Fourth of July: Eat, Look and Craft Well!

Taking a little detour from the wedding world today (Head over to The Bridal Bar Blog for a fun July 4th themed wedding post instead!) for a little something for everyone! Etsy Bridal Shower: Flirty, Sweet and Good Enough to Eat!

It's time for me to admit... I have a little bit of a sweet tooth. Ok, a really big sweet tooth. I'm that girl that lives for dessert and I can't help but be inspired by all the delectable goodies I drool over daily. Come on, I know I'm not alone here, right? And today's sweet treat of choice... candy! Classic and cute, a pastel-hued candy shoppe would make a bridal shower that's, well, good enough to eat!

The best thing about candy is that you can totally decorate with it too! Take a cue from this unbelievable snapshot and fill glass jars with treats in all sorts of flirty colors. These act perfectly as centerpieces with on top a polka dotted tablecloth! This is the perfect time to use ribbon and garlands for your decor, tie a slue of pretty colors on the back of each chair or around place settings (or both!). If you're having an intimate shower with your closest friends, have each bring their favorite classic candy or treat (enough for all the guests) and set up a very personal candy bar for everyone to share! Provide these perfect bags so guests can take over the leftovers, too!

Etsy Wedding: A Picnic of Prints

Memorial Day is coming up this weekend and that signals the unofficial kickoff of summer (even though I've been dreaming of summer here on Notable for a few weeks now!). There's nothing I think of more when it comes to Memorial Day than a great barbeque and down-home picnic and Etsy has all the supplies you'll need to turn one of these picnics into an adorable backyard wedding.

If you've been following for awhile, you'll know that mixing patterns will never go out of style in my mind and today's wedding inspiration is no exception! From the intricate weave of that picnic-turned-flower basket to the polka dot dress and floral print headband. I'd love to see flowers that look as if they'd just been picked from a field in a bouquet with a simple ribbon and this fork and knife print tie is just too good to pass up for a picnic affair!

Why not have a lunchtime reception and serve sandwiches in these canvas bags? If you're having a tent drape one of the garlands from yesterday's feature above the tables, and if not drape them over the table as a faux runner! They even have a subtle polka dot print! Cute little striped cupcake flags to top of dessert and fabulously fragrant soaps for favors! Create your own plaid (for table clothes, menus or even your guest book if you're creative!) with vibrant colored Japanese masking tape. Mix baskets and blue glass bottles for simple arrangements and finish off the tables with these perfectly-printed napkins!

Notables: Food Trucks!

I'm back and now coming to you from beautiful, sunny Los Angeles for the next few months! If you followed my journey across the country via Twitter, you'll know that there was one thing I was more excited for than returning to my favorite city on the planet.... my favorite food on the planet: In-N-Out Burger! So for today, as I settle back in to my LA dwellings for awhile, I decided to incorporate my favorite burger (and a few other favorites) in a post about food trucks! Is there a better way to say farewell to your guests than with a scrumptious food truck parked outside? Everything from burgers and tacos to cupcakes and crepes, you can really customize this delicious treat to your liking and you'll be sure to find your guests thanking you too!

While I may prefer bread, cheese and cupcakes, this post goes to show: eat your veggies. Or, at least decorate with them! That's right, vegetables make really awesome, relatively inexpensive decor and motifs for your wedding! And while I know tomatoes are technically fruits, I just had to include them too. When Martha makes a fruit look that good, it has to be seen. Bon Appetit!

Color Inspiration: Berries, Gingham and Aqua

As promised, a little ode to the summer months to come with a berry and gingham wedding! I added in a few pops of aqua to break up all the red, red, red. This scheme was inspired by a Smucker's jar, actually (minus the aqua of course). I finished off a jar of jam and have been saving it to do something with (Ideas? Leave them below!). So I've been staring at it for a few weeks now and finally decided it was great inspiration for a summer wedding. Gingham, my favorite, and berries, another favorite... what could be better?

Oh man do I love this bridal party concept! I finally get to use the men's gingham shirts that I drool over every time I walk into J. Crew. And that perfect little bridesmaid dress... it's Forever 21. In place of a ring pillow (or flower girl basket) why not wrap some gingham ribbon around a real berry carton? Red bouquets with aqua accents and a gingham skirt for the flower girl. For the finishing touch, I could not resist those earrings! (you'll see why as you scroll down!)

For the reception, think fun and casual picnic. Gingham tablecloths and gingham luggage tags for place cards. Trade half your normal amount of flowers for Ball jars filled with berries. This DIY berry table number project is so very fitting and don't forget to "pop" the aqua, I suggest napkins and mini cake stands. For food... berries of course: why not change things up with berry-topped waffles. Nobody will turn down a good breakfast for dessert option!

Last week I did this citrus wedding and, well, I've kind of been on a fruit kick ever since. This could be because I went to the grocery store today and the strawberries looked edible (and affordable) now that it's getting closer to their peek season. Anyone who knows me knows I love strawberries. But not only do they taste good, berries (all berries, not just my favorites) make interesting and stunning wedding decor! Of course, if your using them for the decor you might as well let your guests enjoy a few berry treats too. Check out these berry ideas that work both on your plate, and off it!

Notables: Spice Up Your Wedding

I was browsing the wedding-web world this weekend when I saw THIS utterly, drop dead gorgeous, can't even handle it, post on Ruffled. What really caught my eye… the tables (see center picture below) were not numbered, but rather each given a different name of a spice. Whether you’re a couple of foodies or just trying to incorporate a part of your culture, using spices in your wedding can accomplish either (or both!), never mind giving you a built in, sure-to-be-stunning color palette! So I started searching for and brainstorming different ways to incorporate these cooking essentials into your wedding and I have found some great ideas to share with you all today!

Labeling each table with a different spice is just genius! On the table cards you can list common recipes the spice is used in and give each guest a different recipe as well as the spice itself. Check out this DIY spice favor from Style Me Pretty (Picture 1) for an economical way to treat your guests. What about filling great custom spice jars, like these from Annie TwoBraids (3), with flowers in natural hues like browns, reds and mustards. Rather let your guests pick their spices? Set up a spice bar (2) and provide tiny tins or little baggies for your guests to pick and choose based on their palettes! Other ways to use spices… they make great decoration (6) and you can even create your monogram with salt and pepper, like Martha did here (5).

Need more inspiration? If you happen to live in some of the Southern states, you can check the Spice and Tea Exchange. I visited the Boca Raton location over the Holiday’s and it’s a beautiful store complete with knowledgeable staff where you can smell all the spices as you please.

I know it’s not As Seen on Etsy day BUT I couldn’t resist showcasing this little gem I found during my research. Purpose Design is a spice addict’s dream. You can mix and match to form your own delicious collection of spices or you can pick one of their pre-matched spice collections, many of which are themed by country. So if you are just looking to incorporate your culture into your big day you can do so with Italian, Indian, French and more blends!
