My Top Picks from New York Bridal Market

October means bridal market and bridal market means a brand spankin' new Vera Wang collection. HA-LE-LU-JAH! And, more recently, Marchesa has developed a new bridal collection that is seriously to die for. My Vera picks are perfect for getting that jaw to drop as you walk down the aisle, and Marchesa provides something a bit more fun and flirty for dancing! Which one is your fave?

Etsy Wedding: Bold Black & White with Pops of Color

Inspired by yesterday's As Seen on Etsy feature, I'm going for bold, graphic black and white prints as today's jumping off point. Isn't that black & white chevron flower girl dress to die for!? Mix up bold stripes, houndstooth and anything else eye-popping for your vases. Or, just buy plain white ones and paint your own patterns on them! Since we're prepping for fall, I thought this wedding was perfect for a slight apple motif, perhaps in your centerpieces, or just as your place cards and cake topper. Don't forget bright red flowers and modern cupcake toppers to seal the deal! (Yes, I did suggest a cake topper and cupcake toppers... there's nothing wrong with both!)

Color Inspiration: Modern Pink and Gray

I have pink on my mind today. Largely due to the fact that my cousin is engaged as of yesterday (Insert screams and squeals here!) and, well, she has a bit of an obsession with pink! So, low and behold... a modern pink and gray wedding. J. Crew came through with an wow-oh-wow gray bridesmaid dress (Aren't you in love with it??). Pretty pink peonies or carnations with gray linens, and little pops of hot pink... like in straws for mini milkshakes, or decor for your dessert bar. I love the simple DIY-style chair accent... how easy and cute would that be for an extra little touch!? A touch of romance and a whole lot of modern, perfect for any season, no? Love!

Etsy Wedding {Book Week}: Dark Romance from Jane Eyre

When I say book week, something has to be from that romantic, Victorian era that I lust after. And while most turn to Pride & Prejudice or something of that fantastic sort... I wanted to take a little turn toward the darker, gothic era with this one. Enter Jane Eyre. Such a dynamic, twisted classic that, well, doesn't really scream wedding, but certainly makes a beautiful one if you're willing to take the risk. Think romantic tea party with a dark side. And, luckily, I could count on my trusted Etsy vendors to provide the rest...

Dark charcoals and deep roses with a hint of victorian lace and that green you only picture when you envision this distinct era. I have no problem seeing a bouquet of delicate dried flowers (This can be done with appropriate treatment!), or at least dried petals for the flower girl to throw. Antiqued gold jewelry and lace cuffs complement a stunning and functional cape for those winter weddings! Perhaps a little monogram green cufflinks for the men?

Flower Girl Dress by Beane and Co., 7. Cameo Locket by Cosmic Girl, 8. Cape by Margery Daw, 9. Wilted Bouquet Photo by Delaney La Fae, 10. Bridesmaid Gown by Pantora by Andrea}

I would forgo fresh flowers for dried petals and brass and golden vessels of all sorts. Long tables strung with these mismatched containers and non-traditional florals atop dark hued runners would be oh so perfect for the mood that the attire has already set. Purchase a handmade leather journal for your guest book and provide primrose-infused soap for favors.

As Seen On Etsy {Book Week}: The Great Gatsby Inspiration

The Great Gatsby is my favorite book... and probably one of the only ones that I continued reading in high school past the first chapter. Yes, as many of you know... it is that good. Now, I don't love the movie, but the all-white room in that house makes me want to cry with happiness. Gorgeous, glamorous... it pretty much brought my visions of the book to life. That said, if you are looking told an all white wedding with a little 1920s inspiration, please oh please take your cue from this eloquent book. I've added a little extra glamour, and, of course, I've found a few things on Etsy to start you off...

Color Inspiration {Book Week}: A Madeline Inspired Wedding

In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines. Now... you can't tell me that doesn't bring back fond memories? If you're liked me you loved all things Madeline (Hey, I even had a fantastic Madeline themed birthday one year!) and, if you've been hanging around Notable for awhile, you'll know I am an advocate for keeping your childhood loves alive and kicking long past those years of innocence. Madeline's mix of youthfulness and innocence against a backdrop of Parisian romance makes quite the jumping off point for a wedding... and here we go!

Well, first thing's first.. you have to wear a hat. The hat. The brim, the bow, the works. Dresses can be simple and subtle with pops of red shoes (and some rain boots to change into for fun pictures!). Why not have the flower girl carry a small suitcase instead of a flower basket (maybe not as practical, but certainly just as cute!)? Navy bouts and yellow bouquets. Your attire is where you can really play up those primary colors Madeline is known for!

{1. Madeline House via Pandalove, 2. Bouquet by Holly Heider Chapple Flowers, 3. Hat by Hold The Wire, 4. Shoes via Anthropologie, 5. Flower Girl Dress by J. Crew, 6. Wedding Dress by J. Crew, 7. Boutonniere by Fritts Rosenow Bespoke Boutonnieres, 8. Suitcase by The Fancy Lamb, 9. Rainy Day Bride and Groom via Elizabeth Anne Designs}

An ivy covered backdrop for your nuptials or an ivy covered trellis above your reception would really bring in that classic, beautiful aspect we all know and love about the books. Attach a found objection (all different, of course) to each place card along with a Madeline-esque bow and hang them on string or tacked to a bulletin board for a fun and vintagey place card display. Place eye-popping yellow arrangements down the center of long tables (in two straight lines...), with mismatched China, as if you had just robbed a French bistro.  And, what else but French pastries for dessert? Provide red tins for guests to take home what they couldn't eat, and tie a little tag on each saying "Merci Beaucoup!"

Etsy Wedding: Summery Peaches to Fall Browns & Greens

It's that time of year... ya know, when we make that transition into fall. It's kind of bittersweet because while I hate saying bye to the warm weather and hello to the cold, I do love the opportunity to wear boots again! Today's Etsy wedding bridges the gap between those beautiful, romantic summery shades (like peach in this case) and those browns and greens you only find when fall comes around. Perfect for early September weddings, pair beautiful peach colored blooms and summery accessories with acorn accented elements like cupcake toppers and a nest-like ring bearer bowl! Incorporate branches into your centerpieces and if you can, say your I do's outdoors, preferably under a canopy of trees draped in garlands with leaves just waiting to jump right into their fall glory!

As Seen On Etsy: Sweet Plume

Flower girl glam is the theme here today, everyone! Sweet Plume's sweet and sassy children's dresses are made with trimmings like feathers and fabrics like silk and tulle. They pump up that fashion factor for the little ones in your bridal party and there is certainly nothing wrong with that! I am personally a huge fan of their black and white styles (Geez, can you tell?) and on a non-wedding note, there's a cupcake costume in their Etsy shop that I could die for (What? It's never too early to prep for Halloween!).

Etsy Wedding: Lemon & Hot Pink with Hints of Pistachio & Hazelnut

Can you handle all those foodie colors in one? Guess I have food on the brain this week, first salmon & eggplant and now a little fun with lemony yellow! Pair that color with a bright, bright pink for quite the eye-popping summer palette. I've toned it down with subtle nods to pistachio and hazelnut hues... like in the flower girl dress and fab garland. Lemonade or lemon drops for drinks and yummy lollipops for dessert too! Have fun with prints for summer weddings and print your table numbers on printed paper, framed in hot pink frames. There's nothing wrong with grown-up streamers, especially as chair decor! Choose lemons or hot pink peonies (or both!) for your centerpieces and that's a wrap!

As Seen On Etsy: Holly Stalder

Holly Stalder has fulfilled my "I love ruffles" quota for the week! Her gorgeous Etsy shop is full of fluttery fabrics, lovely layers and ruffles, ruffles everywhere. These dresses are perfect for a fun and flirty bride who doesn't want a gown that everyone else has, too. So many styles are easily translated into bridesmaid attire, and that backless black one (my personal favorite) would be a knock-out rehearsal dinner dress. If you already have your dress and are looking for that extra bit of pretty, be sure to check out the romantic shrugs too!

Weddings, Etc.: The Loveliest Lingerie

I'm bringing you something I've never done before on Notable today... a little piece of fabulousness for after the wedding. I saw Naomilingerie featured on Etsy and fell head-over-heels in love with their whimsical and ultra-feminine lingerie. Really, I've never seen anything prettier. The fabrics are just so flirty and lovely, I could talk about this fab Etsy find all day! It may not be your typical honeymoon lingerie, but it's worth putting on your must-have list (Come on, I know we all have one!).

Color Inspiration: Summer Sorbet

Today's inspiration is all about the best meal of the day: dessert. In fact, I am still madly in love with the idea of a dessert-only reception (budget friendly too!). Sorbet inspired the colors, pretty pink and creamy orange, but don't worry, dessert won't be limited to just that!

The bridal attire really looks good enough to eat, no? Pastel tutus and print dresses and props. Lots of delicate flowers- real ones, paper ones & fabric ones too! And how fun are those creamsicle earrings?

{1. Bride Shot by Erin Hearts Court via Elizabeth Anne Designs, 2. Bowtie by Me and Matilda, 3. Creamsicle Earrings by Kathleen Cavalaro, 4. The reception screams dessert buffet galore! Sorbet, cake, tea and everything in between set amongst centerpieces of crepe paper flowers and striped straws (I think they'd make super cute table decor!). Provide pretty twine and kraft paper boxes for guests to take home some treats and celebrate long after this delicious reception ends!

A Day with Martha Stewart and Vera Wang

If you follow me on twitter, you know I had quite the exciting day on Wednesday when I ventured to my {second} favorite city, New York! I thought it would be fun to take a step out of the wedding inspiration world and share my day with you all! In fact, it may not all be wedding related but the day ended with quite a bang when I got to sit in on an event with the one, the only, Vera Wang. Now, I may not have unleashed my obsession, admiration and total I-worship-the-ground-she-walks-on love for her, but I guess no better time then the present! Before I start gushing and gushing about her (and sharing a few videos of her interview!), lets start at the very beginning, The Martha Stewart Show!

It was a bright and early morning (5 am wake up call!) but well worth it! The studio was essentially my dream world complete with a prep kitchen, TV kitchen, craft area and gardening station!

Martha did a little cooking, a little crafting and a how-to for a gardening apron and as soon as we knew it the show was over! It was live, and in fact I was chosen to ask a wedding question on air, but due to the live nature of the show, they ran out of time! Martha stuck around after the show and answered several audience questions and well, it was pretty exciting to be in the same room as the queen of crafting!

We took a little Soho snack & shopping break before we headed uptown to Bloomingdales. If you are in New York, and haven't tried Baked by Melissa yet, close the computer and head over there now. Right now. They are the most moist cupcakes I have ever tasted, and they are bite size (literally), so you can try a more than one!

Now for the best part, and the part you have all been waiting for! The event I attended was in celebration of Vera Wang's 20 years in the wedding industry (both fashion and fine china) and it was held at the Bloomingdales NYC flagship. We first checked out the 11 Vera dresses that were chosen to be displayed at Bloomies, and one of my all time favorites was included! In my opinion, Vera's fall 2010 collection was one of her best, ever, and my favorite gown from the line was on display...

Did you pass out from sheer amazement yet? Ok, stay with me!

A few of my other favorites...

The event culminated with a "conversation" with Vera herself (Oh. Wow.) and lucky for you all, I took a few videos of her answering questions about her experience in the bridal fashion industry! I suggest you turn up your volume because they are may be a bit hard to hear!

Vera on her favorite dress {and her very own wedding dress!}...

Vera on her black wedding dress...

Vera on dressing celebrities on their big day...

Seeing one of my biggest idols and most adored individuals in the industry, in person, was utterly amazing and I am so glad I got to share a piece of my exciting day with you! If you are lucky enough to live in, or around, Manhattan, the Vera Wang gowns will be on display through June 6th on the 4th floor of Bloomingdales (59th & Lex) and they are really worth seeing! Enjoy your beautiful weekend!

Color Inspiration: Love Letters

It is very rare to receive a true love letter nowadays. Maybe a "love fax," in the words of Carrie Bradshaw? But who wouldn't want to receive a messenger-delivered, handwritten love letter? A girl can dream right? Well, this dream was the inspiration for today's post and I don't think you can find a wedding more inspired by love. I kept it neutral with tan, white and navy and let the romance do the talking.

For the men its simple: navy pants, khaki (or seersucker!) blazer and an adorable little bow tie. Perhaps my favorite find today was this bridesmaid dress- which can be styled in so many different ways. Hello, an actual reusable 'maid gown! Hooray! The "love letter" flower carries a special message and would be fantastic strung on a navy ribbon around the bride's gown. Navy accents, of course, to finish it off!

For seating at your ceremony, turn bails of hay or benches into kraft paper-wrapped boxes (or if you can find this fabric, even better)! Kraft gift boxes work for favors too! Ticking stripe linens and sachets on the chairs and a cake as fantastic as this one! Leave a vintage love letter (yes, you can buy just about everything on Etsy) on each table and a vintage mailbox for guests own letters of love and good wishes. You can even put together a scrapbook of memorabilia, letters and photos from the day you met to the day you wed for guests to flip through during cocktail hour. This wedding really is all about celebrating love. True, undying love.

Notables: Stripes! {PLUS The Giveaway Winner Announced!}

It's time for a little pattern love on Notable-- and today it comes in the form of stripes. What a fantastically versatile print, so perfect for so many weddings. One of my favorites has to be the bold, graphic stripes for fun straws or "goodie" bags, but I also have been obsessing over ticking stripe linens lately (check back tomorrow for more on that!). So, I've scouted out a few fab ways to use stripes in your decor and your attire. And behold, pretty patterns at their finest! But don't forget, keep scrolling to see who won last week's special Etsy giveaway!
