Etsy Wedding: Whimsical Peacock Blue, Magenta & Vibrant Green

I am so obsessed with deep, dark peacock blue right now. Not the feathers, just that awesome blue color. Aside from it being the perfect color for my future dining room walls, it makes a great base for a wedding, especially when paired with a magenta or raspberry pink (a.k.a. my future dining room chairs) and maybe a little green too. I felt a little whimsical when creating this palette, the flower wands, mismatched tags and those oh so awesome flower books for centerpieces! I love the idea of a colored crinoline peaking out from under a bride's dress, don't you? And those little dollops of heaven in the bottom right corner? Key lime white chocolate clouds. Mhmm, I think dessert is calling my name!

Color Inspiration {Book Week}: A Madeline Inspired Wedding

In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines. Now... you can't tell me that doesn't bring back fond memories? If you're liked me you loved all things Madeline (Hey, I even had a fantastic Madeline themed birthday one year!) and, if you've been hanging around Notable for awhile, you'll know I am an advocate for keeping your childhood loves alive and kicking long past those years of innocence. Madeline's mix of youthfulness and innocence against a backdrop of Parisian romance makes quite the jumping off point for a wedding... and here we go!

Well, first thing's first.. you have to wear a hat. The hat. The brim, the bow, the works. Dresses can be simple and subtle with pops of red shoes (and some rain boots to change into for fun pictures!). Why not have the flower girl carry a small suitcase instead of a flower basket (maybe not as practical, but certainly just as cute!)? Navy bouts and yellow bouquets. Your attire is where you can really play up those primary colors Madeline is known for!

An ivy covered backdrop for your nuptials or an ivy covered trellis above your reception would really bring in that classic, beautiful aspect we all know and love about the books. Attach a found objection (all different, of course) to each place card along with a Madeline-esque bow and hang them on string or tacked to a bulletin board for a fun and vintagey place card display. Place eye-popping yellow arrangements down the center of long tables (in two straight lines...), with mismatched China, as if you had just robbed a French bistro.  And, what else but French pastries for dessert? Provide red tins for guests to take home what they couldn't eat, and tie a little tag on each saying "Merci Beaucoup!"

Etsy Wedding: A Sunny and Bright Wedding with Aqua & Yellow

A little inspiration from the sky and the sun today... since I'll be missing endless days of sunshine when I head back to the east coast's not-so-perfect-weather next week. Since this was in fact inspired by the sky, I added a bird motif for a little whimsical fun. Gotta go with one of my favorites... yellow billy balls for florals, in aqua vases (spray paint always works to turn all sorts of vases into a uniform set!). Sweet cake stands to hold your mini-bunting adorned desserts and graphic stationery for a modern touch. For favors give those awesome blank notebooks... and even customized pencils if you'd like! Ahhh there's nothing better than blue skies and sunshine!

Color Inspiration: A Rehearsal Dinner Picnic

There's never very much rehearsal dinner love on wedding blogs so today's post, while it could most certainly work for a wedding, is ideal for a casual, outdoor rehearsal dinner picnic! I told you yesterday that I fell in love with these screen-printed place mats so they were the inspiration for today! I love the idea of stacking a bunch of crates or picnic baskets and filling them with everything you'd need for the perfect picnic! Place mats, wooden utensils, drinkware, the works! A few tables and benches, maybe some simple garlands or strands of lights and a fan to keep everyone cool. The perfect time to relax and enjoy your company, before the {often} hectic day-of!

Color Inspiration: A Wedding Inspired by Toy Story!

In honor of Toy Story 3 premiering this week, I'm forgoing the usual Etsy Wedding for a special little wedding concept inspired by these Disney Pixar classics! Use toy blocks for place cards and identify each table by a number, letter or picture on the block! For centerpieces fill vintage toys, like trucks or piggy banks, with pretty blooms and for favors provide brightly hued lollipops! For a fun, and totally Toy Story, photo booth print a large sky image for the backdrop and provide Mr. Potato Head pieces for props! How FUN does that sound!? See, you don't have to have Woody and Buzz sitting on your table for a fantastic inspired wedding, just pull a few elements and turn them into a super cute Disney affair!

Inspired Creations Contest: A Puzzling Pop Art Affair!

Oh boy am I excited to share this out-of-this-world post with you today! In case you haven't heard, the lovely ladies of Elizabeth Anne Designs and The Sweetest Occasion are hosting a contest, called the Inspired Creations Contest, where vendors were asked to compete and create a totally original, and totally realistic, wedding concept to inspire brides around the world! Well, I teamed up with Janice Carnevale of Bellwether Events, photographer Kurstin Roe and stationer Carolynn of Two Brunettes to create an eye-popping, innovative concept that I am so head-over-heels in love with. You can see it HERE on EAD and I've brought you some of the details below today! But be sure to scroll all the way to the end of the post to find out how and where to see more, and how you can play a part in this brilliant contest!

We wanted to incorporate puzzles into a wedding because it was something we hadn't seen before and something so perfect for a wedding motif! Then, we knew we wanted to stay away from the typical pastels and vintage fair that we see a lot in weddings nowadays. So, we decided to pair puzzle pieces with pop art for a bright and super fun wedding!

Carolynn designed a perfect invitation suite to get our mock guests excited about what was to come! In fact, you can download the template here for your very own wedding invitations!

Our place card turned guest book contest is probably my favorite part. In short, each guest gets a magnetic puzzle piece along with their place card that matches up to the puzzle pieces of everyone at their table. Together, each table must put together their puzzle and bring it over to a white board that has been painted with magnetic primer. Each table puts up their puzzle to create a totally pop art piece that all the guests can then sign around for a fantastic keepsake for the couple! Take note! I'll be bringing all the DIY details of this concept tomorrow so you can recreate this exactly as you see (or put your own spin on it!).

The cake was covered in white fondant and sprinkled with cute puzzle cutouts! Our cake topper was an Etsy find (yay!) and complemented the pop-art theme quite nicely if you ask me!

Now for the final, and my tied-for-favorite part, the photo booth! Wanna know the best part? All you need is a Mac laptop! Yes you heard me right, we set up a Mac laptop and used the pop art style in the Photobooth application. We created an irresistible set-up of props and masks-on-a-stick and all it took was one click and guests have an instant favor (provide a small printer and have your photographer's second-shooter man it). Doesn't get much better, or budget friendly than that, huh?

So, what do you think? I have to say I'm pretty happy with how the puzzles and pop art worked together, and now I really wish I could attend a wedding like this! Don't you?

Here's where you come in. First, if you want to find out all the details on who helped us out with this fabulous shoot head on over to Elizabeth Anne Designs where it is currently posted! Then, if you like our concept as much as I hope you do, be sure to leave a comment on our post on EAD (and feel free to leave one here as well!)!

I'll be back tomorrow with the low-down on the DIY elements of this concept so make sure you stop by! I hope you enjoyed our "puzzling" idea, and don't forget to comment by clicking HERE!

Etsy Bridal Shower: Flirty, Sweet and Good Enough to Eat!

It's time for me to admit... I have a little bit of a sweet tooth. Ok, a really big sweet tooth. I'm that girl that lives for dessert and I can't help but be inspired by all the delectable goodies I drool over daily. Come on, I know I'm not alone here, right? And today's sweet treat of choice... candy! Classic and cute, a pastel-hued candy shoppe would make a bridal shower that's, well, good enough to eat!

The best thing about candy is that you can totally decorate with it too! Take a cue from this unbelievable snapshot and fill glass jars with treats in all sorts of flirty colors. These act perfectly as centerpieces with on top a polka dotted tablecloth! This is the perfect time to use ribbon and garlands for your decor, tie a slue of pretty colors on the back of each chair or around place settings (or both!). If you're having an intimate shower with your closest friends, have each bring their favorite classic candy or treat (enough for all the guests) and set up a very personal candy bar for everyone to share! Provide these perfect bags so guests can take over the leftovers, too!

And, I had to include a few, unique things for your "unofficial" registry too! Like this adorable lingerie and these sock garters! The flats are so sweet, and vegan too!

Etsy Wedding: A Picnic of Prints

Memorial Day is coming up this weekend and that signals the unofficial kickoff of summer (even though I've been dreaming of summer here on Notable for a few weeks now!). There's nothing I think of more when it comes to Memorial Day than a great barbeque and down-home picnic and Etsy has all the supplies you'll need to turn one of these picnics into an adorable backyard wedding.

If you've been following for awhile, you'll know that mixing patterns will never go out of style in my mind and today's wedding inspiration is no exception! From the intricate weave of that picnic-turned-flower basket to the polka dot dress and floral print headband. I'd love to see flowers that look as if they'd just been picked from a field in a bouquet with a simple ribbon and this fork and knife print tie is just too good to pass up for a picnic affair!

Why not have a lunchtime reception and serve sandwiches in these canvas bags? If you're having a tent drape one of the garlands from yesterday's feature above the tables, and if not drape them over the table as a faux runner! They even have a subtle polka dot print! Cute little striped cupcake flags to top of dessert and fabulously fragrant soaps for favors! Create your own plaid (for table clothes, menus or even your guest book if you're creative!) with vibrant colored Japanese masking tape. Mix baskets and blue glass bottles for simple arrangements and finish off the tables with these perfectly-printed napkins!

Color Inspiration: Love Letters

It is very rare to receive a true love letter nowadays. Maybe a "love fax," in the words of Carrie Bradshaw? But who wouldn't want to receive a messenger-delivered, handwritten love letter? A girl can dream right? Well, this dream was the inspiration for today's post and I don't think you can find a wedding more inspired by love. I kept it neutral with tan, white and navy and let the romance do the talking.

For the men its simple: navy pants, khaki (or seersucker!) blazer and an adorable little bow tie. Perhaps my favorite find today was this bridesmaid dress- which can be styled in so many different ways. Hello, an actual reusable 'maid gown! Hooray! The "love letter" flower carries a special message and would be fantastic strung on a navy ribbon around the bride's gown. Navy accents, of course, to finish it off!

For seating at your ceremony, turn bails of hay or benches into kraft paper-wrapped boxes (or if you can find this fabric, even better)! Kraft gift boxes work for favors too! Ticking stripe linens and sachets on the chairs and a cake as fantastic as this one! Leave a vintage love letter (yes, you can buy just about everything on Etsy) on each table and a vintage mailbox for guests own letters of love and good wishes. You can even put together a scrapbook of memorabilia, letters and photos from the day you met to the day you wed for guests to flip through during cocktail hour. This wedding really is all about celebrating love. True, undying love.

Weddings, Etc.: DIY Cupcake Stands!

It's a DIY day on Notable today! I'm bringing you the full tutorial on how to create the cupcake stands I made for the Relay For Life table I worked on last weekend! When I say they're simple, I mean they are simple. And, you can so easily adapt them to any color scheme so no matter what your wedding (or shower, or rehearsal dinner) looks like, your guests can enjoy some fantastically displayed cupcakes!

Here's what you need:

A 5" Round Terra Cotta Pot Saucer (The things that go under the pot!)-- I got mine at Michaels in the floral section.

A small candle holder, goblet, or other vessel that can act as a base. Anything will work as long as it is relatively short, has a flat base and stable top. I got mine from the sale section at Anthropologie.

White, Flat Spray Paint (One can covered about 8 pot saucers) for a primer,
Color Spray Paint of Your Choice (I used two shades of aqua for mine!),
Hot Glue Gun

On to the good stuff.. the how-to!

1. Begin by priming the terra cotta saucers with the flat white spray paint. Make sure your in a well ventilated area (translation: outside). I sprayed the underside first and let it dry according to the instructions on the can. Then I flipped them and sprayed the top. Make sure you coat them completely so you don't see any red showing through.

2. Now it's time for COLOR! Repeat the same process with your colored spray paint, and adjust how many coats (or how close you hold the can) according to how dark you want the color to be. I did one coat of a pale aqua and topped it with a light coat of a darker aqua to give it depth. Let this dry completely.

3. Once your saucer is painted and fully dry, get out your candle holder/vessel for your base. Have both the base and the saucer ready and close by on your table. We're going to apply the hot glue to the top of your base to avoid having it show on the finished product. Run your hot glue gun around the rim, as close to the inside edge as possible. The top of my candle holder had a very narrow rim so I ran the glue around the inside as well to ensure it would hold, without having an ugly glue line showing.

4. Next your going to quickly flip your base onto the bottom side of the saucer and hold it firmly for a few seconds so the glue can dry. Leave it upside down for 15 minutes, just to be safe and let it totally set.

5. Believe it or not, that's it! Flip over the cupcake stands and "garnish" with a cupcake! Perfect for weddings, bridal showers or just for fun!

If you have any questions about how to make the stands, leave them in the comments below or send me an email at kellylanza {at} gmail {dot} com!

Etsy Wedding: Retro Diner Inspiration!

A lot of people live for those special nights when they go out to a 5-star restaurant and order the most expensive thing on the menu... Well, I'm not one of them. In fact, my favorite place to eat may just be a diner. They're often open 24 hours and serve breakfast all day long. Life just doesn't get much better! So today's Etsy wedding was inspired by a retro, 1950s style diner. I decided to veer away from red and do a little black, white and teal and used this image from City Light Photography (Have you entered the giveaway yet?) as my inspiration!

This vintage floral dress is so perfect I could cry-- great for a maid of honor! A little bow action for the bride and flower girl and some record inspired accessories for the whole bridal party (men included)!

Bow Dress by ShugaRose, 7. Anemone Hair Clip by DK Designs}  8. Hat Box by Sarah Anntiques, 9. Checkered Bow Tie by Xander Design Shop}

Serve a signature cocktail in vintage coke bottles with a fun striped straw! Set up a photo booth with these diner-style stools and provide tons of records for your guests to sign with their well wishes! Stick to black and white for the florals (couldn't resist throwing in those anemones) and place cards and then pop the table with teal accents-- like plates, napkins and table numbers!

Color Inspiration: A Cinco de Mayo Fiesta!

Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo and what better reason than that to post a fun, mexican fiesta wedding! Mexican food may just be my favorite, and the culture and experience that goes along with it is so bright, festive and exciting! There's a lot of color going on in this one! If that's not how you picture your wedding, it would be a fantastic rehearsal dinner too!

You really have to limitation on flowers here. Just make sure they are bold, bright and wow-evoking! I really love the orange, pink, yellow and aqua palette... and do you just love those bridesmaid dresses? Like I said before, not your idea of wedding attire? Gift your 'maids fun mexican-inspired dresses for the rehearsal! This yellow scarf and these awesome barrettes would make great finishing touches!

{1. Bride & Bouquet Shot by Jose Villa, 2. Boutonnieres Shot by Tec Petaja, 3. Scarf by Anthropologie, 4. Barrettes by Anthropologie, 5. Ring Shot by Jose Villa, 6. Embroidered Clutch by Free People, 7. Bow Tie by Buttered Toast, 8. Flower Girl Dress by Lillipops Designs, 9. Bridal Party Shot by Daisy Varley via Elizabeth Anne Designs}

Now, for the decor and entertainment... you must, must, must have a mariachi band (perfect for cocktail hour!)! Nothing like that music to get your guests pumped for the rest of the evening. This really is ideally set outdoors, with benches for seating, bright flags hanging above and paper flowers in aqua vases! No place setting could be more fit-for-fiesta then this, and of course there has to be margaritas! Why not host a margarita bar, where guests can choose everything from the classic marg to a pomegranate or watermelon concoction!

Notables: Red Gingham & Aqua for a Good Cause

In case you missed my tweets yesterday, I was helping out Janice Carnevale of Bellwether Events with a very special tablescape. She is a part of Relay For Life and one of the fundraising events leading up to the walk is a tea. Any team participating in Relay For Life is able to buy a table at the tea and decorate it as they please. Now, of course we didn't just do any ordinary tea setup... we did iced tea, inspired by this color inspiration I posted a few weeks back...

{See the original post here for image credits}

Yep, we chose red gingham and vibrant aqua and the table turned out fantastic! But the best part is, it was for a great, great cause.

We simply hemmed gingham fabric for the tablecloth, trimmed the votive holders with ribbon and served iced tea, sweet tea and lemonade!

Berry cartons trimmed with mini gingham ribbon!

I DIY'd the cupcake stands... look for a full tutorial later this week!

Of course, we had to incorporate my favorite Ball jars, filled with simple white florals...

And last but not least, who could resist a little Georgetown Cupcake?

Now that's an adorable twist on a picnic if I've ever seen one! Don't forget... look for a tutorial on the DIY'd cupcake stands later this week, come back Wednesday for Notable's first ever giveaway (you're gonna want to see this one!) and check out Relay For Life to find out how you can get involved too!

Weddings, Etc.: Video Shoot Sneak Peak!

I've been dropping little hints about a special project I've been working. For a class I'm taking I've been asked to make a video and well, I thought, what a great opportunity to work on a little eye candy for my readers. Well, finally, finally, I was able to shoot said video and I have a little photo preview of it for you today!

Now, I created a tablescape. My first real tablescape. Ever. Yep, I said it, my mind is overflowing with ideas all the time (as I hope you see on this blog daily!) but this was my first time actually styling a table, offline, all by myself. Of course I had my styling assistant, AKA my mom, and my resident photographer, AKA my dad, there for help. Why oh why would I tell you that I'm a first timer? Well, I want to show that really anyone can work with what they have, with or without experience, and create an awesome look for their wedding.

My concept was mixing bright bold elements with natural, organic pieces. I mixed calla lilies and wheat, muslin and tulle, glass vessels and vintage costume jewelry. The palette: amber, eggplant and aqua. I'll provide all the little details (a few Etsy finds, a few flea market treasures and a little DIY by yours truly) when I post the finished video in a few weeks. For now, enjoy a few of my favorite shots from the day!

Kelly
