Color Inspiration: A Fall Wedding with Pumpkins & Eggplant

Fall has sprung here quite suddenly and now that it's October, I figured it was about time to post a little autumn inspiration. Today's palette combines punches of pumpkin and pops of another great fall hue... eggplant. I about flipped when I saw the pumpkin as a soup bowl idea in my Martha wedding emails! How awesomely October, no? Long tables with burlap runners, loads of candles and purple hued flowers... perhaps a few mini pumpkins in there too! Vintage sodas in perfect season colors and garlands of leaves to frame a photobooth. For favors? I would love to see mini pumpkins with simple pumpkin carving kits.. how fun is that!?

Etsy Wedding: An Art Inspired Wedding

Lately I've been longing for those days when I actually had time to sit down and sketch or paint. (Will there ever be enough hours in the day?) So, I'm living vicariously through this Etsy wedding which is all about bright colors, paint splatters and everything in between. This is for the art loving couple that isn't afraid of bright hues and doesn't want anything to do with tradition. Why not boast a bouquet of Sola wood flowers. Yes, I said wood flowers. Pop your shoes, and his tie, with some splatters and get those 'maids in the brightest thing you can find. Mini wooden paint palettes for placecards and those awesome paint-swatch books for favors. Name each table after a different and unique hue and paint a mini canvas to step-in as a pseudo table number. Of course, what could be more perfect a wedding then this for an art inspired guest book? Blow up a picture, print the outline on a canvas, grid it and have each guest paint their own square. Tada! A painter's paradise!

Color Inspiration: Salmon, Eggplant & Chartreuse

We see lots of pinks, corals and peaches in weddings, but what about a slightly different hue... like salmon? This color is so interesting paired with anything from navy to aqua to eggplant and chartreuse, like I've done here. This palette really pops with a little bit of retro flair. Vintage dresses with chartreuse sashes, Izze drinks for your guests and hand painted signs to start. I love those charming, sculptural centerpieces (why not build them from spray painted milkshake glasses?), especially interspersed with vibrant chartreuse votive holders. Outside? Complete this peppy, retro occasion with twinkle lights galore!

Color Inspiration: Nude and Lavender

Today's palette is perfectly light and airy with lavender and a stunning nude (erring on the side of peach). Simple, glowing romance is the theme here with lots of tulle and subtle lavender bouquets. Had to throw in this holy-wow Vera gown, and of course, the perfect pair of nude pumps (which every girl should have, wedding or no wedding!).

Weddings, Etc.: Video Shoot Sneak Peak!

I've been dropping little hints about a special project I've been working. For a class I'm taking I've been asked to make a video and well, I thought, what a great opportunity to work on a little eye candy for my readers. Well, finally, finally, I was able to shoot said video and I have a little photo preview of it for you today!

Now, I created a tablescape. My first real tablescape. Ever. Yep, I said it, my mind is overflowing with ideas all the time (as I hope you see on this blog daily!) but this was my first time actually styling a table, offline, all by myself. Of course I had my styling assistant, AKA my mom, and my resident photographer, AKA my dad, there for help. Why oh why would I tell you that I'm a first timer? Well, I want to show that really anyone can work with what they have, with or without experience, and create an awesome look for their wedding.

My concept was mixing bright bold elements with natural, organic pieces. I mixed calla lilies and wheat, muslin and tulle, glass vessels and vintage costume jewelry. The palette: amber, eggplant and aqua. I'll provide all the little details (a few Etsy finds, a few flea market treasures and a little DIY by yours truly) when I post the finished video in a few weeks. For now, enjoy a few of my favorite shots from the day!

Etsy Wedding: A Country Brunch

I don't know about you, but brunch is without a doubt my favorite meal. Ever. In fact, I would only eat brunch (Ok, really breakfast but brunch makes it acceptable after noon) if I could. I know there's traditionally a day-after brunch during your wedding weekend, but I'm all about non-traditional here right? So why not a wedding brunch? Preferably set in the backyard of a quaint cottage for an intimate country affair.

For this country brunch, I suggest a palette of pretty purples and leafy greens with floral prints and wicker accents. Purple floral dresses for the 'maids and green accents for the men. A wicker basket for your rings and a fabulously textured bouquet.

Bring in more wicker baskets for your floral arrangements, which should be filled with all sorts of purple pretties (Think lilac, hydrangea.. delicate but impactful). I was inspired by this ribbon, featured in yesterday's post, and think it would be for accenting, well, everything. Choose benches that look like they came right of the front porch of a Southern mansion. And now for the food. How about a sophisticated cereal bar? Yes, I just said that. Think granola and other organic mixes and supplement with milk in wicker covered bottles and greek yogurt. A wide selection of tea, it even matches the palette, and of course brunch staples like pancakes and waffles with wonderful fresh made jams. Not to forget the lunch part, offer simple salads and light mid-day appropriate dishes.

Etsy Wedding: Pastels & Daisies

I love Easter because, to me, when Easter arrives, spring arrives. It's the only time of the year when I really embrace white and pastels in all their glory. Today I wanted to bring you an Etsy wedding that would be so perfect to hold over Easter weekend, or any time throughout the spring really. It was inspired by daisies, the simple, sweet flower that allowed me to pull white as my main color and a delicate yellow as an accent. True to my style, I threw in some purple accents to mix things up. And what an Easter-y purple it is!

I could just die over this daisy ring bearer pillow. Yes, that little grass & daisy bit of cuteness is for your rings! Don't you love it? Classic white for the bride and flower girl, think innocent and feminine. These bridesmaid dresses are subtly striped and absolutely scream SPRING! Why not throw on a classic cardigan for a few picture? Leave the pops of purple to the men-- yes, I'm suggesting gingham again! Is there really a happier fabric?

Daisy arrangements in milk glass vases and vessels with a little purple sprinkled across the table. Vintage plates are a must if your guest list is small and can accommodate this. Use all sorts of pastelly prints and colors, take a cue from this plate for a start. Do I have to say that cupcakes are a requirement? Ones with fondant flowers are preferred. If you choose to hold an affair around Easter and want to incorporate it subtly, test out these seaglass eggs for place cards or this egg garland for a ceremony backdrop.

Color Inspiration: Eggplant, Plum, Charcoal and Gray

I may not be a fan of the winter season but it certainly makes for gorgeous weddings! So today I'm bringing you inspiration for a winter wedding of purples and grays. That's right, sometimes it's better to stick to just two colors (especially if your intimidated by numerous hues!) and use varying shades of them. Some of the most beautiful weddings have a simple palette, and this concept could be one of them! Behold, a glamourous and sophisticated winter affair!

My favorite part of this entire inspiration board is the glen plaid groom's jacket with the eye popping plum tie, in fact that look is responsible for this entire concept (Shh!)! Then men I imagine working these ensembles like to have a lot of fun (see the mismatched socks and converse sneakers) while the women error more on the sophisticated side. Opposites attract, no? I adore this deep, dark eggplant calla lilies and what better for a winter wedding then fingerless gloves with fun fur pom poms!

This table set up by JL Designs (can you tell I'm a huge fan?) with gray linens, playful eggplant pillows and glamourous white leather chairs... what's not to like? Fill sparkling silver vases with more of those near-black calla lilies and mix it up with purple glass votive candle holders, and bring in the "fun" element with a few funky fabric branches. The motto of this wedding: Eat, drink and be glamourous.

Translation, Weddings: Fuchsia, Periwinkle, White & Gold

I'm trying a little something new here today, courtesy of my late night-overactive mind. I use a ton of interior design inspiration for my wedding inspiration boards but I thought today I would show exactly how to translate simple elements of beautiful interiors into a cohesive wedding concept in my new series, "Translation, Weddings." I want all your thoughts on this idea! Do you like it, not like, seen it before, suggestions for room inspiration? Like I said, I thought of it about 12 hours ago so it's a work in progress!

For the first round, I found this scrumptious fuchsia and periwinkle living room full of rich textures and great white and gold accents! It provided so many great translations for wedding elements so let me walk you through a few of them! I adore the floor-to-ceiling curtains in this room and immediately thought of a delicately gathered periwinkle bridesmaid dress-- Vera Wang came to the rescue with this one. I took the cue from the fireplace's multiple layers for an idea for a little treat- white on white macaroons- topped with a sliver of gold a la the pillows and chair trim. The prints from the rug and chairs provided for the groomsmen's ties and place cards. The plush plush couches have so many tones of periwinkle, just like this bouquet and of course the pop of fuchsia in those fabulous ottomans would be a great way to brighten the invitations and the tablescape!

Interior design and weddings aren't all that different- they act as spaces filled with colors and items that reflect you- you just happen to live in one of them and say "I do" at the other!
