Color Inspiration {Book Week}: A Madeline Inspired Wedding

In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines. Now... you can't tell me that doesn't bring back fond memories? If you're liked me you loved all things Madeline (Hey, I even had a fantastic Madeline themed birthday one year!) and, if you've been hanging around Notable for awhile, you'll know I am an advocate for keeping your childhood loves alive and kicking long past those years of innocence. Madeline's mix of youthfulness and innocence against a backdrop of Parisian romance makes quite the jumping off point for a wedding... and here we go!

Well, first thing's first.. you have to wear a hat. The hat. The brim, the bow, the works. Dresses can be simple and subtle with pops of red shoes (and some rain boots to change into for fun pictures!). Why not have the flower girl carry a small suitcase instead of a flower basket (maybe not as practical, but certainly just as cute!)? Navy bouts and yellow bouquets. Your attire is where you can really play up those primary colors Madeline is known for!

An ivy covered backdrop for your nuptials or an ivy covered trellis above your reception would really bring in that classic, beautiful aspect we all know and love about the books. Attach a found objection (all different, of course) to each place card along with a Madeline-esque bow and hang them on string or tacked to a bulletin board for a fun and vintagey place card display. Place eye-popping yellow arrangements down the center of long tables (in two straight lines...), with mismatched China, as if you had just robbed a French bistro.  And, what else but French pastries for dessert? Provide red tins for guests to take home what they couldn't eat, and tie a little tag on each saying "Merci Beaucoup!"

Etsy Wedding: A Sunny and Bright Wedding with Aqua & Yellow

A little inspiration from the sky and the sun today... since I'll be missing endless days of sunshine when I head back to the east coast's not-so-perfect-weather next week. Since this was in fact inspired by the sky, I added a bird motif for a little whimsical fun. Gotta go with one of my favorites... yellow billy balls for florals, in aqua vases (spray paint always works to turn all sorts of vases into a uniform set!). Sweet cake stands to hold your mini-bunting adorned desserts and graphic stationery for a modern touch. For favors give those awesome blank notebooks... and even customized pencils if you'd like! Ahhh there's nothing better than blue skies and sunshine!

Etsy Wedding: An Art Inspired Wedding

Lately I've been longing for those days when I actually had time to sit down and sketch or paint. (Will there ever be enough hours in the day?) So, I'm living vicariously through this Etsy wedding which is all about bright colors, paint splatters and everything in between. This is for the art loving couple that isn't afraid of bright hues and doesn't want anything to do with tradition. Why not boast a bouquet of Sola wood flowers. Yes, I said wood flowers. Pop your shoes, and his tie, with some splatters and get those 'maids in the brightest thing you can find. Mini wooden paint palettes for placecards and those awesome paint-swatch books for favors. Name each table after a different and unique hue and paint a mini canvas to step-in as a pseudo table number. Of course, what could be more perfect a wedding then this for an art inspired guest book? Blow up a picture, print the outline on a canvas, grid it and have each guest paint their own square. Tada! A painter's paradise!

Etsy Wedding: Lemon & Hot Pink with Hints of Pistachio & Hazelnut

Can you handle all those foodie colors in one? Guess I have food on the brain this week, first salmon & eggplant and now a little fun with lemony yellow! Pair that color with a bright, bright pink for quite the eye-popping summer palette. I've toned it down with subtle nods to pistachio and hazelnut hues... like in the flower girl dress and fab garland. Lemonade or lemon drops for drinks and yummy lollipops for dessert too! Have fun with prints for summer weddings and print your table numbers on printed paper, framed in hot pink frames. There's nothing wrong with grown-up streamers, especially as chair decor! Choose lemons or hot pink peonies (or both!) for your centerpieces and that's a wrap!

Color Inspiration: Modern Gray, Yellow and Copper Wedding

Has everyone recovered from their July 4th festivities? Well we're taking a 360 degree turn from red, white and blue today to my newest color palette obsession- gray, yellow, copper and white! It is not a secret that mustard and gray are my favorite colors of all time and I love the added pop of a coppery hue. Take this palette modern with paper flowers, graphic placecards and simple fabric garlands. If you still want a little something classic, why not stick back to my other old favorite... seersucker! Alright, I'm in love.

Inspired Creations Contest: A Puzzling Pop Art Affair!

Oh boy am I excited to share this out-of-this-world post with you today! In case you haven't heard, the lovely ladies of Elizabeth Anne Designs and The Sweetest Occasion are hosting a contest, called the Inspired Creations Contest, where vendors were asked to compete and create a totally original, and totally realistic, wedding concept to inspire brides around the world! Well, I teamed up with Janice Carnevale of Bellwether Events, photographer Kurstin Roe and stationer Carolynn of Two Brunettes to create an eye-popping, innovative concept that I am so head-over-heels in love with. You can see it HERE on EAD and I've brought you some of the details below today! But be sure to scroll all the way to the end of the post to find out how and where to see more, and how you can play a part in this brilliant contest!

We wanted to incorporate puzzles into a wedding because it was something we hadn't seen before and something so perfect for a wedding motif! Then, we knew we wanted to stay away from the typical pastels and vintage fair that we see a lot in weddings nowadays. So, we decided to pair puzzle pieces with pop art for a bright and super fun wedding!

Carolynn designed a perfect invitation suite to get our mock guests excited about what was to come! In fact, you can download the template here for your very own wedding invitations!

Our place card turned guest book contest is probably my favorite part. In short, each guest gets a magnetic puzzle piece along with their place card that matches up to the puzzle pieces of everyone at their table. Together, each table must put together their puzzle and bring it over to a white board that has been painted with magnetic primer. Each table puts up their puzzle to create a totally pop art piece that all the guests can then sign around for a fantastic keepsake for the couple! Take note! I'll be bringing all the DIY details of this concept tomorrow so you can recreate this exactly as you see (or put your own spin on it!).

The cake was covered in white fondant and sprinkled with cute puzzle cutouts! Our cake topper was an Etsy find (yay!) and complemented the pop-art theme quite nicely if you ask me!

Now for the final, and my tied-for-favorite part, the photo booth! Wanna know the best part? All you need is a Mac laptop! Yes you heard me right, we set up a Mac laptop and used the pop art style in the Photobooth application. We created an irresistible set-up of props and masks-on-a-stick and all it took was one click and guests have an instant favor (provide a small printer and have your photographer's second-shooter man it). Doesn't get much better, or budget friendly than that, huh?

So, what do you think? I have to say I'm pretty happy with how the puzzles and pop art worked together, and now I really wish I could attend a wedding like this! Don't you?

Etsy Bridal Shower: Flirty, Sweet and Good Enough to Eat!

It's time for me to admit... I have a little bit of a sweet tooth. Ok, a really big sweet tooth. I'm that girl that lives for dessert and I can't help but be inspired by all the delectable goodies I drool over daily. Come on, I know I'm not alone here, right? And today's sweet treat of choice... candy! Classic and cute, a pastel-hued candy shoppe would make a bridal shower that's, well, good enough to eat!

The best thing about candy is that you can totally decorate with it too! Take a cue from this unbelievable snapshot and fill glass jars with treats in all sorts of flirty colors. These act perfectly as centerpieces with on top a polka dotted tablecloth! This is the perfect time to use ribbon and garlands for your decor, tie a slue of pretty colors on the back of each chair or around place settings (or both!). If you're having an intimate shower with your closest friends, have each bring their favorite classic candy or treat (enough for all the guests) and set up a very personal candy bar for everyone to share! Provide these perfect bags so guests can take over the leftovers, too!

Etsy Wedding: A Picnic of Prints

Memorial Day is coming up this weekend and that signals the unofficial kickoff of summer (even though I've been dreaming of summer here on Notable for a few weeks now!). There's nothing I think of more when it comes to Memorial Day than a great barbeque and down-home picnic and Etsy has all the supplies you'll need to turn one of these picnics into an adorable backyard wedding.

If you've been following for awhile, you'll know that mixing patterns will never go out of style in my mind and today's wedding inspiration is no exception! From the intricate weave of that picnic-turned-flower basket to the polka dot dress and floral print headband. I'd love to see flowers that look as if they'd just been picked from a field in a bouquet with a simple ribbon and this fork and knife print tie is just too good to pass up for a picnic affair!

If you're having a tent drape one of the garlands from yesterday's feature above the tables, and if not drape them over the table as a faux runner! They even have a subtle polka dot print! Cute little striped cupcake flags to top of dessert and fabulously fragrant soaps for favors! Create your own plaid (for table clothes, menus or even your guest book if you're creative!) with vibrant colored Japanese masking tape. Mix baskets and blue glass bottles for simple arrangements and finish off the tables with these perfectly-printed napkins!

Color Inspiration: A Cinco de Mayo Fiesta!

Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo and what better reason than that to post a fun, mexican fiesta wedding! Mexican food may just be my favorite, and the culture and experience that goes along with it is so bright, festive and exciting! There's a lot of color going on in this one! If that's not how you picture your wedding, it would be a fantastic rehearsal dinner too!

You really have to limitation on flowers here. Just make sure they are bold, bright and wow-evoking! I really love the orange, pink, yellow and aqua palette... and do you just love those bridesmaid dresses? Like I said before, not your idea of wedding attire? Gift your 'maids fun mexican-inspired dresses for the rehearsal! This yellow scarf and these awesome barrettes would make great finishing touches!

Now, for the decor and entertainment... you must, must, must have a mariachi band (perfect for cocktail hour!)! Nothing like that music to get your guests pumped for the rest of the evening. This really is ideally set outdoors, with benches for seating, bright flags hanging above and paper flowers in aqua vases! No place setting could be more fit-for-fiesta then this, and of course there has to be margaritas! Why not host a margarita bar, where guests can choose everything from the classic marg to a pomegranate or watermelon concoction!

Etsy Wedding: A Cross Country Road Trip

If you checked out yesterday's post, you already know the inspiration for today's wedding-- Vintage license plates! But, there really is another, more personal source of inspiration for this affair-- the cross country road trip I am going to be taking in about three weeks. Yep, I'm headed out to Los Angeles for the summer and I am driving. The whole way. So I couldn't help myself when I saw that fab license plate picture but to do a little wedding that has a total feeling of a classic, good old road trip across the USA.

I really wanted to pull from the plate colors so I used black, white, red and yellow. Black and white for the bride and flower girl, and a little yellow for the bridesmaids. I LOVE these handmade flats too! How fitting are the cufflinks and the subtle tie? This license plate box makes a great ring holder and that vessel is perfect for a few petals. For flowers I would do something TOTALLY unexpected... like black & white anemones. Maybe popped with a few yellow billy balls?

Now, you may look at this reception concept and think, how is that a wedding? No flowers really, and certainly nothing to put them in. Well, for this I would draw from above. Yep, I think it would be so fitting to hang all different vintage license plates (or bike plates, like these) from above and keep the table simple. Maybe serve a family style dinner with old ketchup and mustard bottles. Just sprinkle some dried petals on the tables, or you can absolutely incorporate your choice flowers in some simple glass vessels. Have your guests sign the inside of an old atlas as your guest book and incorporate a map into your stationery, somehow. Take it to the next level by using street signs (one way, stop, yield) to direct your guests throughout the day!

Color Inspiration: Vibrant Hues & Antique Gold

When I was flea market-ing this weekend I saw a ton of antique gold vanity mirrors and ornate gold frames. I wanted them all (not practical...) and thought they would be such amazing decor for a wedding. But what to pair them with? Then I saw this unbelievable flowered wall on Oh Joy! and well, the rest is history. Everyone meet fresh, vibrant flowers and ornate, antique gold!

Every bridesmaid must wear a different color. Each with different color flats, and each with a bouquet of another color. See the pattern here? The bride can don a little Lanvin and a bouquet that combines all the maids flowers. For the boutonnieres, I think a few petals pinned to the suit from all different flowers would be divine. Pop the vibrant colors with gold jewelry and trimmings!

The reception is where all the ornate, antique gold is really the star. See the mantle of flowers in glass vessels? Transport that directly to long tables and intersperse standing gold mirrors to add some welcomed drama. If your venue allows, I would just die to see flowers hanging from above alongside golden ribbon and vintage lighting. And why not bring the vibrant effect to your drinks, with flower ice cubes. How. Cute. This is the perfect wedding for gifting your guests with bags of flower seeds to plant in their own gardens. Tie a vintage gold charm on each packet for good luck!

Color Inspiration: Mary Poppins

There's been a lot of Alice fever going around lately and I think its time another Disney classic got a little attention. A Disney classic by the name of Mary Poppins instantly came to mind. From the outstanding Julie Andrews (Can I come back as her in my next life?) to the more recent run on Broadway, this high flying nanny provides a little inspiration for a big, I-wish-I-never-grew-up kinda wedding. The recipe for this affair: one part tea party on the ceiling, one part carousel come to life and two teaspoons of sugar.

The theme here is clearly not matchy-matchy. Rather it's all about crazy colors and a little bit of black and white for good measure. Now I know this flower girl ensemble is a teeny bit literal (OK, a lot literal) but really, how could I resist? For the rest of the wedding party, take the "pop" of that infamous red and white striped jacket and turn it into trim for your florals. Replace flower girl baskets with teacups, of course and a vintage carousel necklace for the bride. Saving the best part for last, you must buy this blazer for a prop in your photos. Look closely (click the image to make it larger!) and it has a famous saying from Ms. Poppins.

If I don't get invited to a reception like this at some point in my life, I may be a little upset. It is just so FUN. The whole Mary Poppins inspiration began from this umbrella image that I almost dropped dead over. Take a cue from it and hang umbrellas over your tables. Replace vases with teacups and sugar jars and turn pixie stix (a stick-full of sugar?) into flower stems. Monogram the teacups to spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious for an extra special touch. If you can find a venue with an old carousel, just some horses plucked from one or even simply some stationery with these magical ponies on it, you are all set. Finish off your whimsical, storybook affair with a Barberhsop Quartet and a few beautiful park-like benches.

Etsy Wedding: Pastels & Daisies

I love Easter because, to me, when Easter arrives, spring arrives. It's the only time of the year when I really embrace white and pastels in all their glory. Today I wanted to bring you an Etsy wedding that would be so perfect to hold over Easter weekend, or any time throughout the spring really. It was inspired by daisies, the simple, sweet flower that allowed me to pull white as my main color and a delicate yellow as an accent. True to my style, I threw in some purple accents to mix things up. And what an Easter-y purple it is!

I could just die over this daisy ring bearer pillow. Yes, that little grass & daisy bit of cuteness is for your rings! Don't you love it? Classic white for the bride and flower girl, think innocent and feminine. These bridesmaid dresses are subtly striped and absolutely scream SPRING! Why not throw on a classic cardigan for a few picture? Leave the pops of purple to the men-- yes, I'm suggesting gingham again! Is there really a happier fabric?

Daisy arrangements in milk glass vases and vessels with a little purple sprinkled across the table. Vintage plates are a must if your guest list is small and can accommodate this. Use all sorts of pastelly prints and colors, take a cue from this plate for a start. Do I have to say that cupcakes are a requirement? Ones with fondant flowers are preferred. Color Inspiration: Kelly Green, Buttercup Yellow & Navy Blue

Feeling lucky after yesterday's post? Well I'm continuing the Irish theme with today's color inspiration so you really are in luck! And with this one, even if you're not Irish you can still be inspired, I promise! Now, I've never been to Ireland but am always told of the unexpected colors you find on the buildings lining the storybook streets. So that was my cue for this kelly green, buttercup yellow and navy blue wedding concept.

Despite Ireland's reputation for cloud cover and rainy days, I tried to bring some sunshine into this palette (but I threw in a polka dot umbrella for good measure!). Sunny yellow dresses and dapper bow ties with an adorable floral number for a petite flower girl. If you're feeling daring, and the season is appropriate, go for seersucker suits (they are my absolute favorite!) too. I chose baby's breath for the bouquets, but only baby's breath... keeping it simple but adding a delicate texture.

Aren't the polka dot invitations darling? I told you, we're going for sunshiny bright like the buildings (not the weather!). White ruffly table cloths and a DIY ribbon chandelier contrasted with vintage lunch boxes and tackle boxes spilling over with more baby's breath. For favors, hand out tiny blooms (or bulbs) accented with a special thank you message calligraphed on these beautiful blue paper leaves.

Why not frame images of these unbelievably hued buildings to display at your reception (table numbers anyone?). If you're like me, this is a great way to subtly weave inspiration from your culture into your wedding. A little less literal then bottles of Guinness or orange & green flags, no? And it's even more unexpected!

Color Inspiration: Slate Blues, Mustard and Ivory

Week one at Notable Inspiration was filled with vintage, natural and romantic elements so I figured I would change things up a bit today for this week's Color Inspiration. Introducing: An affair that, to me, speaks of country club meets French Country meets a teeny touch of modern. Can you handle all that? If so, you could be in for a great, sophisticated affair with a classic country color palette- blues, in this case slate, mustard yellow and ivory.

I'm a bit head-over-heels for seersucker suits right now (Rumor has it that Club Monaco will be carrying them this spring), and this affair was PERFECT to throw them in. Blue seersucker with yellow pom flowers (officially called billy balls) and bouquets to match. Dark blue, hindering on the edge of navy, bridesmaid dresses (I adore the one pictured by Nostalgia) and a sweet, short wedding dress all with pops of mustard yellow- flats, clutches and all!

The French Country comes out to star in the reception decor. Printed table cloths (the one from Anthropologie is ideal) topped with antique-inspired, painted yellow pails and candle holders, and what about hanging mismatched frames to showcase your place cards? This beautiful design by Sadie Olive can so easily be translated into a great place setting- printed napkins, slate blue chargers and French-inspired menu cards, all tied together and topped with a delicate sweetheart rose. Color Inspiration Preview: Slate Blues Mustard and Ivory

Tomorrow's Color Inspiration is my interpretation of a modern twist on French Country. It's a beautiful color palette of shades of slate blue, mustard (one of my all time favorite colors!) and ivory. The bridal party I imagine is outfitted in modern attire- think seersucker, ruffles and peep-toe flats- dining and celebrating in a country setting- pails, candlesticks and all!
