Color Inspiration: Edgy Black, Classic White and A Touch of Crystal

Today's palette was inspired by the contrast between those fantastic leather gloves and the fluffy tulle dress in the image below.  Everyone loves being girly sometimes (right?) but there's nothing wrong with having a little edge. Add a pop of crystals and you get total glamour.

Black and white and... sparkle all over? Mhm! I could die over those gloves, and wouldn't mind adding a few more dark accessories like this barrette and this necklace. A little bling on the shoes and some for the groom too! Of course, it pays to have a flower girl with a little attitude and an adorable black and white dog too!

Dog Shot via Once Wed, 7. Barrette by Kirsten Kuehn Designs, 8. Cufflinks by Somethingxtra Special, 9. Necklace by J. Crew}

Why not ground every centerpiece (tulips preferred, and unexpected!) with a vintage mirrored tray? Black chairs and mirrors to bring in the edge and crystal chandeliers if your venue allows! I loved the doily as a charger and placecard idea in the latest Martha, and it is so perfect for this tablescape! Finish things off with a perfectly perfect black and white cake, or a pretty tiered tray with black and white cookies (they work as favors too!)!

Etsy Bridal Shower: Come Fly With Me!

This beautiful post began as a wedding concept, but I quickly grew to love it more as a fantastically intimate bridal shower, and an ultra-feminine one at that. The feel here is as if you raided grandma's vanity and scattered her beautiful things about your shower. It's complete with pops of magenta and a few pretty butterflies peaking through forests of tulips. Gold rimmed china, napkins tied with delicate lace, and paper garlands hanging from above. Leave this stunning gold tissue box holder as a place for guests to drop favorite memories with the bride!

As Seen On Etsy: Alice's Looking Glass

Today's Etsy vendor is responsible for the fabity-fab (I can make up words right?) ticking stripe sachets from yesterday's love letter inspiration. And the greatness doesn't end there. Alice's Looking Glass's shop updates almost every day with the most exquisite vintage finds and handmade goodies. Everything from the most fantastic vases, goblets and dishes to vintage recipe cards and one of kind treasures like that napkin ring set and that b-eau-ti-ful pillow! Expect to see that tiny crown of perfection in tomorrow's post (and maybe a few other lovelies too!). What's your favorite item?

{All Products & Images from Alice's Looking Glass' Etsy Shop}

I could spend a whole day digging through the gorgeousness on Alice's Looking Glass and I bet a few of you could too!

Color Inspiration: Love Letters

It is very rare to receive a true love letter nowadays. Maybe a "love fax," in the words of Carrie Bradshaw? But who wouldn't want to receive a messenger-delivered, handwritten love letter? A girl can dream right? Well, this dream was the inspiration for today's post and I don't think you can find a wedding more inspired by love. I kept it neutral with tan, white and navy and let the romance do the talking.

For the men its simple: navy pants, khaki (or seersucker!) blazer and an adorable little bow tie. Perhaps my favorite find today was this bridesmaid dress- which can be styled in so many different ways. Hello, an actual reusable 'maid gown! Hooray! The "love letter" flower carries a special message and would be fantastic strung on a navy ribbon around the bride's gown. Navy accents, of course, to finish it off!

Boy's Blazer by J. Crew, 7. Dress by Butter by Nadia, 8. Shoe Shot via Green Wedding Shoes, 9. Bouquet via Martha Stewart Weddings}

For seating at your ceremony, turn bails of hay or benches into kraft paper-wrapped boxes (or if you can find this fabric, even better)! Kraft gift boxes work for favors too! Ticking stripe linens and sachets on the chairs and a cake as fantastic as this one! Leave a vintage love letter (yes, you can buy just about everything on Etsy) on each table and a vintage mailbox for guests own letters of love and good wishes. You can even put together a scrapbook of memorabilia, letters and photos from the day you met to the day you wed for guests to flip through during cocktail hour. This wedding really is all about celebrating love. True, undying love.

Etsy Wedding: Retro Diner Inspiration!

A lot of people live for those special nights when they go out to a 5-star restaurant and order the most expensive thing on the menu... Well, I'm not one of them. In fact, my favorite place to eat may just be a diner. They're often open 24 hours and serve breakfast all day long. Life just doesn't get much better! So today's Etsy wedding was inspired by a retro, 1950s style diner. I decided to veer away from red and do a little black, white and teal and used this image from City Light Photography (Have you entered the giveaway yet?) as my inspiration!

This vintage floral dress is so perfect I could cry-- great for a maid of honor! A little bow action for the bride and flower girl and some record inspired accessories for the whole bridal party (men included)!

{1. Vintage 1950s Dress by LipStick Whisky, 2. Record Cufflinks by Dabble Designs, 3. Record Cuff by Eye Pop Art, 4. Record Bowl by Deliverance05, 5. Flower Girl Dress by Elsje Boer, 6. Bow Dress by ShugaRose, 7. Anemone Hair Clip by DK Designs}  8. Hat Box by Sarah Anntiques, 9. Checkered Bow Tie by Xander Design Shop}

Serve a signature cocktail in vintage coke bottles with a fun striped straw! Set up a photo booth with these diner-style stools and provide tons of records for your guests to sign with their well wishes! Stick to black and white for the florals (couldn't resist throwing in those anemones) and place cards and then pop the table with teal accents-- like plates, napkins and table numbers!

Etsy Wedding: A Cross Country Road Trip

If you checked out yesterday's post, you already know the inspiration for today's wedding-- Vintage license plates! But, there really is another, more personal source of inspiration for this affair-- the cross country road trip I am going to be taking in about three weeks. Yep, I'm headed out to Los Angeles for the summer and I am driving. The whole way. So I couldn't help myself when I saw that fab license plate picture but to do a little wedding that has a total feeling of a classic, good old road trip across the USA.

{License Plate Photo by City Light Photography}
I really wanted to pull from the plate colors so I used black, white, red and yellow. Black and white for the bride and flower girl, and a little yellow for the bridesmaids. I LOVE these handmade flats too! How fitting are the cufflinks and the subtle tie? This license plate box makes a great ring holder and that vessel is perfect for a few petals. For flowers I would do something TOTALLY unexpected... like black & white anemones. Maybe popped with a few yellow billy balls?

{1. Boutonniere by Lint and Lavender, 2. Dress by Vera Vague, 3. Flower Girl Dress by Olive and Fern, 4. License Plate Box by Lepelstat Crafts, 5. Handmade Red Flats by SMARTFISH, 6. Vase by Gypsy's Caravan, 7. Crochet Headband by Broken Hallelujah, 8. Dress by Homecoming, 9. Map Collage Cufflinks by House of Ismay, 10. Map Tie by Supper Club}

Now, you may look at this reception concept and think, how is that a wedding? No flowers really, and certainly nothing to put them in. Well, for this I would draw from above. Yep, I think it would be so fitting to hang all different vintage license plates (or bike plates, like these) from above and keep the table simple. Maybe serve a family style dinner with old ketchup and mustard bottles. Just sprinkle some dried petals on the tables, or you can absolutely incorporate your choice flowers in some simple glass vessels. Have your guests sign the inside of an old atlas as your guest book and incorporate a map into your stationery, somehow. Take it to the next level by using street signs (one way, stop, yield) to direct your guests throughout the day!

Color Inspiration: A 1930s Inspired Train Station Affair

There is something so historic and nostalgic about train stations, but they also evoke an air of romance too. Perhaps because these stations were the precursor to the hellos and goodbyes we are accustomed to seeing at airports nowadays? I was immediately inspired to incorporate the 1930s when I decided to do a little train travel theme for todays concept, and the two themes work together seamlessly. The palette is very demure and subtle with an accent of terra cotta reds, a vintage feel and an essence of never-ending love.

Hats. Lots of hats. For the men, the bridesmaids and maybe one with a birdcage veil for the bride. If you don't desire to be the only one in white, put your bridesmaids in creamy colored dresses with gold jewels and simple, single flower bouquets. This is the perfect opportunity to don a true 30's inspired gown. Bright red-orange suitcases make fun, and fitting, props and if you can find a train station, or even just train tracks, for a photo shoot, be sure to take advantage of it!

{1. Wedding Gown Shot by Todd Pellowe via Wedding Bee, 2. Vintage Suitcase by The Queen of Re, 3. 1930s Hat and Veil by Cathy's Vintage Shop, 4. Groom Shot by Stephanie Fay Photography, 5. Bridal Party Shot by SOTA/Studio This Is via Ruffled, 6. Flower Girl Dress by J. Crew, 7. Vintage Necklace by Lkfarnsworth Studio, 8. Bouquet Shot by Karen Wise via Brooklyn Bride, 9. Vintage Hat by Marvita13}

Train station or not, bring in the train travel feel with your stationery. Luggage tag save the dates, train ticket invitations and please, oh please, use old train slips (like these) for handwritten menus! Stack vintage train cases and photo boxes for guests to fill with good wishes and polaroids from a special photo booth. Find snapshots of different elements of a train station, like this waiting room sign, and use a distinct one to identify each table. Pop simple cream hued tables and flowers with terra cotta napkins and chair finishings and treat your guests to custom leather luggage tag favors!

Etsy Wedding: Green Glass, Pale Pink & Shiny Silver

In need of inspiration... for anything? Go to a flea market. This is not a new source of inspiration to many, but it is one that should be required for anyone looking to be inspired. In fact, it's what inspired both wedding palettes this week. This time: green glass bottles. They are so bright and bold. After some thought, I decided to go with a classic pink & green scheme, something I'm not usually fond of. But what you pick the right shades, oh wow is it awesome! Pale pink, vibrant green and a little elegant silver. Yum.

What's more perfect than pink roses? A little here a little there, I adore this dress for your maids and this little headband for your girls! This serving dish is perfectly upcycled into a flower girl basket too, with a little green glass in the jewelry to match. Finish off your look with some flashy (in a good way) silver flats!

{1. Pink Kissing Ball by Amore Bride, 2. Vintage Tie Tack by Clock Winder,  3. Silver Flats by Nick and Nessies, 4. Pink Dress by Claire La Faye, 5. Necklace by Lizix26, 6. Ring by Silver Girl Creations, 7. Shoes by Sugar Plumb Tree, 8. Rose Headband by Neisha's Blue, 9. Serving Dish by JuJo's Attic}

 I would love to see juliet roses in this palette-- one stem per fabulous green bottle. Serve delicious sorbet in beautiful silver goblets and drape the tables with vintage fabric- pink florals of course! If printed tables are just too much, reserve the fabric for the chairs: full covers, tie backs, anything! And why not make a mosaic guest book out of broken up vintage china? There's two ways to do this. If your guests are willing to get a little messy, you can have them each place a few tiles on a large slab (provide directions calligraphed on pretty paper and delegate one of your bridesmaids to help). Prefer to keep things clean? Assemble it yourself! Place the tiles in any desired pattern, a large tile art piece, a mirror or a frame and have your guests sign on or around it! Gotta get creative with guest books these days!

There you have it, my take on pink and green-- minus the preppy but with a little bit vintage flair!

Color Inspiration: Vibrant Hues & Antique Gold

When I was flea market-ing this weekend I saw a ton of antique gold vanity mirrors and ornate gold frames. I wanted them all (not practical...) and thought they would be such amazing decor for a wedding. But what to pair them with? Then I saw this unbelievable flowered wall on Oh Joy! and well, the rest is history. Everyone meet fresh, vibrant flowers and ornate, antique gold!

Every bridesmaid must wear a different color. Each with different color flats, and each with a bouquet of another color. See the pattern here? The bride can don a little Lanvin and a bouquet that combines all the maids flowers. For the boutonnieres, I think a few petals pinned to the suit from all different flowers would be divine. Pop the vibrant colors with gold jewelry and trimmings!

{1. Wedding Dress by Lanvin via NET-A-PORTER, 2. Flats by Lanvin via Barneys, 3. Bouquet Shot by Jeremy Lawson Photography via Style Me Pretty, 4. Pocket Watch by Crafters Emporium, 5. Petal Image via Eat Drink Chic, 6. Ring Bearer Bowl by Paloma's Nest, 7. Flower Girl Dress by J. Crew,  8. Chain Necklace by Kiamichi7, 9, 10 & 11. Dresses All Anthropologie}

The reception is where all the ornate, antique gold is really the star. See the mantle of flowers in glass vessels? Transport that directly to long tables and intersperse standing gold mirrors to add some welcomed drama. If your venue allows, I would just die to see flowers hanging from above alongside golden ribbon and vintage lighting. And why not bring the vibrant effect to your drinks, with flower ice cubes. How. Cute. This is the perfect wedding for gifting your guests with bags of flower seeds to plant in their own gardens. Tie a vintage gold charm on each packet for good luck!

Etsy Wedding: A Country Brunch

I don't know about you, but brunch is without a doubt my favorite meal. Ever. In fact, I would only eat brunch (Ok, really breakfast but brunch makes it acceptable after noon) if I could. I know there's traditionally a day-after brunch during your wedding weekend, but I'm all about non-traditional here right? So why not a wedding brunch? Preferably set in the backyard of a quaint cottage for an intimate country affair.

For this country brunch, I suggest a palette of pretty purples and leafy greens with floral prints and wicker accents. Purple floral dresses for the 'maids and green accents for the men. A wicker basket for your rings and a fabulously textured bouquet.

{1. Dress by Fashion Loft, 2. Basket by Zipidydodah, 3. Dried Flower Bouquet Ball by New Hampshire Woods Creations, 4. Flower Hair Clip by Lucy Goosey Creations, 5. Dress by Fashion Loft, 6. Reversible Jumper by Sassy Sweeties, 7. Vintage Belt by Girl Least Likely Vintage, 8. Lace Dress by Snow in October, 9. Necklace by Ruby Rouge Jewellery, 10. Vintage Tie by Uncommon Vintage}

Bring in more wicker baskets for your floral arrangements, which should be filled with all sorts of purple pretties (Think lilac, hydrangea.. delicate but impactful). I was inspired by this ribbon, featured in yesterday's post, and think it would be for accenting, well, everything. Choose benches that look like they came right of the front porch of a Southern mansion. And now for the food. How about a sophisticated cereal bar? Yes, I just said that. Think granola and other organic mixes and supplement with milk in wicker covered bottles and greek yogurt. A wide selection of tea, it even matches the palette, and of course brunch staples like pancakes and waffles with wonderful fresh made jams. Not to forget the lunch part, offer simple salads and light mid-day appropriate dishes.
{1. Meadow Print by Gingerlillytea, 2. Lavender Potpourri by Herbolution, 3. Jasmine Green Tea by The Dream Weaver Shop,  4. Wicker Covered Bottles by Haven Vintage, 5. Chestnut Rocking Bench by New Moon Salvage, 10. Vintage Ribbon by Package In Style}

Remember, the feeling here is casual, intimate and little bit country. But if you take the risk, it could be a fabulous daytime celebration complete with the comforts of your favorite morning treats.

Etsy Wedding: Pastels & Daisies

I love Easter because, to me, when Easter arrives, spring arrives. It's the only time of the year when I really embrace white and pastels in all their glory. Today I wanted to bring you an Etsy wedding that would be so perfect to hold over Easter weekend, or any time throughout the spring really. It was inspired by daisies, the simple, sweet flower that allowed me to pull white as my main color and a delicate yellow as an accent. True to my style, I threw in some purple accents to mix things up. And what an Easter-y purple it is!

I could just die over this daisy ring bearer pillow. Yes, that little grass & daisy bit of cuteness is for your rings! Don't you love it? Classic white for the bride and flower girl, think innocent and feminine. These bridesmaid dresses are subtly striped and absolutely scream SPRING! Why not throw on a classic cardigan for a few picture? Leave the pops of purple to the men-- yes, I'm suggesting gingham again! Is there really a happier fabric?

{1. Dress by reddoll, 2. Purple Plaid Tie by Kiki The Spunky Munky, 3. Daisy Hair Pins by Nest Pretty Things, 4. Flower Girl Tutu by Baby Cha Cha, 5. Wedding Dress by The English Dept., 6. Cardigan by Platypi Vintage, 7. Grass Ring Bearer Pillow by Emma Leigh Designs, 8. Gingham Boys Bow Tie by Me and Matilda}

Daisy arrangements in milk glass vases and vessels with a little purple sprinkled across the table. Vintage plates are a must if your guest list is small and can accommodate this. Use all sorts of pastelly prints and colors, take a cue from this plate for a start. Do I have to say that cupcakes are a requirement? Ones with fondant flowers are preferred. If you choose to hold an affair around Easter and want to incorporate it subtly, test out these seaglass eggs for place cards or this egg garland for a ceremony backdrop.

I'm off for an Easter weekend at home in New Jersey and will be breaking this Friday from my posts to prepare for a special video shoot I'm working on for Notable. Enjoy your weekend and happy hunting! (Egg hunting that is!)

Etsy Wedding: A Vintage Equestrian Affair

What I'm bringing you today is so totally... completely... unrecognizably different from anything I've done on Notable Inspiration and I'm SO excited about it! I live right across the street from a gorgeous Ralph Lauren store and every time I go in I secretly want to live the RL lifestyle-- specifically that polo-playing, equestrian one. Maybe in my next life? For now I'm living vicariously through this equestrian wedding I created for you all, complete with lots of leather and rich shades of burgundy, emerald and navy.

I just had to look to Sarah Seven again for the bridal attire. Both dresses= To Die For! What about hiding a vintage pair of riding boots underneath those flowing gowns? A dapper groom in a subtle-plaid blazer and bold striped tie and of course a little plaid bow tie for the ring bearer! This vintage leather stud box makes a great stand-in for a ring pillow too! A little nod to the beautiful horses in the accessories and this affair is complete, with the tip of your velvet riding hat!

Vintage Leather Belt by Loving Lola, 12. Equestrian Cufflinks by Cool Curios, 13. Brooch by Uncaged Burt}

Here's how I envision the reception: long tables and bench chairs accented with distressed leather pillows. Leather vessels amongst jewel-hued glass jars and a few true equestrian artifacts sprinkled about for a truly authentic feel. To balance out the richness of these colors, some brass candlesticks will stand tall and elegant and for your favors none other then little leather journals (write the menu on the first page for a two-in-one money saver!).

As Seen on Etsy: Two Art Directors and a Photographer

I'm more than excited to share this Etsy vendor with you today! Now, this vendor isn't one that specializes in handmade items, but rather vintage, one-of-a-kind found objects, meticulously selected from warehouses and estate sales. Two Art Directors and a Photographer is a team of three people (couldn't tell by the name?) who spend their free time picking out the best items that can make great additions to a wedding, for the right couple of course! Items like a vintage adding machine (Are you marrying an accountant?) or a vintage instrument case (Musician by day?) are incredible statement pieces to inspire conversation in your guests or even to use in a photo booth! The lot of vintage tickets would make intriguing place cards or favor labels. You must think outside the box to use these items, but like I said in Friday's Alfred Hitchcock post, sometimes you get the best results doing just that!

{1. Crested Salt and Pepper Shakers, 2. Vintage Milk Glass Spice Bottle, 3. Vintage Milk Glass Perfume Bottle, 4. Vintage Adding Machine, 5. Vintage Framed Photo, 6. Vintage Tickets, 7. Vintage Vanity Mirror, 8. Vintage Instrument Case, 9. Quilted Milk Glass Lamp}

Coming up shortly, a preview of tomorrow's Etsy Wedding including the beautiful vintage instrument case above!

Etsy Wedding: Peach, Antique Ice Blue and Dark Teal

Welcome to Notable Inspiration’s very first Etsy Wedding, wedding inspiration created entirely from vintage and handmade items found on Etsy! As I mentioned in my welcome post, I am a big supporter of small businesses and handmade items and think they make great, unique additions to any wedding! Now on to the good stuff…
I absolutely adore this palette of pale peach, antique ice blue and deep, dark teal hues touched with a bit of bronze. It reminds me of a sophisticated ice cream social or a playful backyard tea party. I’m currently loving when flower girls are dressed in fluffy tutus (and what little girl doesn’t want to look like a ballerina?) and I can’t even begin to describe how unbelievable the embroidered Boheur necklace would look on a daring bride.

And what’s more perfect for this dream of a wedding then vintage glass jars in pale hues overflowing with delicate blossoms and accented with the amazing creations by Sparklepants Industries—paper flowers made of pages from old romance novels! If you can swing it, the sideboard from Knack would make a stunning dessert table and later a great piece in your home!

COMING UP! I can't even contain my excitement for what I have to share with you tomorrow... an Alfred Hitchcock themed engagement session! It's truly amazing and I know you will all LOVE it. Check back tomorrow for this great "Weddings, Etc." installment!
